Grandeur Peak - Millcreek Canyon

The trailhead for Grandeur Peak above Millcreek Canyon is at the Church Fork picnic area. It is just east of Highway I-215 at about 30th South in Salt Lake City. There are signs in the area directing you to Millcreek Canyon. The Church Fork picnic area is 3 miles up the canyon on the North side of the road. Park along the side of the main road and begin a spectacular 3 mile hike from an elevation of about 5600 feet above sea level, to the summit at about 8300 feet above sea level. Today there were about 25 people on various parts of the trail. Most all of the maple, oak and aspen leaves were on the ground, but it made a beautiful carpet to walk on. The temperature was about 50 degrees; delightful to hike in. A few clouds meandered up the canyons and over the peaks. It took me 1 hour and 25 minutes to reach the summit. Roundtrip took 2 and 1/2 hours. There was a little snow hiding on the north slopes and in some of the pines, but the trail was clear. Today, the half-moon lingered over the summit. It was a beautiful day. This is a great half or full day excursion.
